Died: John George Rockdaschel, Sumner, Iowa 69. Born in Bavaria, July, 1814. Settled in Ohio in 1873, remained three years. He then came to Jeff & opened a shoe makers shop in a little log bldg, on the corner where Kispert & Roesslers clothing store is now. He was the first German shoemaker in the village, we are informed. As soon as he earned enough money, he started farming 3 miles East of Jeff, on the Helenville Road. Here he lived until 1875, when he removed to Iowa & returned to his old business as a shoemaker. He had 1 son & 5 daughters. He was one of the old pioneers of Jeff. He served as supervisor of the town, one or more terms. Obviously the date of 1873, as previously mentioned is a publishing error. |
