1888-01-05     Mr & Mrs Graeszel assumed control of the insane asylum, Monday last, formerly done by Mr Trucks.
1888-01-05     Mr & Mrs George Trucks, in charge of the insane asylum for 13 years, stepped out. Mrs Trucks is in ill health, reason for leaving. At first only 20 patients there, kept in separate cells in the old part of the bldg. Patients were scantily clad, served food through openings in the door, beds were of straw & very little bed clothes. Mr & Mrs Trucks revolutionized the system. More Humane. (long article).

1888-01-05     Public Sale: Estate of Andreas Puerner, Sr: Lots 5,6 & 7, in blk 3, Sanborn & Barbers Addition. Also, 190 gals of wine, 1 set of shoemaker tools, with split, crimping & leather sewing machines, 1 sewing machine, 1 German Silver Tuba, 1 E flat Alto, 1 A&B Clarinet, 1 C Clarinet, 1 double barrel shotgun, & all of the household furniture & apparel of Mr & Mrs Puerner.

1888-01-05     Theodore Wittl left for Milwaukee where he will work on the tailoring trade.
1888-01-12     The Opera House Barber Shop again changed hands, HF Schroeder succeeding Lewis Brown. Brown will make Lake Mills his home. Schroeder is having a new floor laid & other improvements.
1888-01-12     Rev Mrs Bullock, sister-in- law of the Rev L Bullock, of this place, preached last Sunday morning at the ME Church.
